In tech news, demand for Microsoft’s Silverlight product remains low, we explain why you should care.
In tech news, demand for Microsoft’s Silverlight product remains low.
What does that mean and why should I care I hear you scream – well the truth is you should care more than you possibly think.
The Silverlight product is Microsoft’s answer to Adobe Flash. As a web user you’ll have come across sites using Flash technology to achieve smooth graphics and interactive applications.
For job board owners and content providers, Flash is one of the primary formats used for online video. If your site supports video – perhaps you offer companies the ability to upload recruitment videos, chances are your site is using Flash.
The move by Microsoft to launch Silverlight as a Flash competitor could introduce real problems for web site providers. In the same way sites currently have to spend money ensuring their content works in multiple browsers, a world where both Flash and Silverlight have significant market share could mean increased development costs in supporting both formats.
For once, news that a new technology product is struggling to gain a user base might be a good thing for many online recruitment professionals.
